Hap took over from Bob O'Brien as Butte County Veterans Service Officer in 1977. At the time, Lura O'Bryan and I worked in the office. Hap was certainly a fun guy to work for and I have many great memories of us working on veteran's cases and preparing budgets. Hap was always supportive of me in my career. When Mrs. O'Bryan retired in 1978 he promoted me into her job. I left the job in 1981 but I always felt a warm, and appreciative spot for Hap. I was very happy to present him with his many plaques when he retired from that job in 1983.
